The learner must understand the importance of maintaining good personal health and hygiene at all times. The learner should also understand the importance of a professional appearance when dealing with customers and the way in which this enhances the image of the company.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
Explain the reasons and importance for complying with legislative and organisational policy with regards to personal hygiene and professional appearance.

Legislative and organisational procedures for dress codes and personal hygiene are described.

The importance of wearing clean and smart clothing and maintaining a professional appearance is explained.

The reasons whether or not to interact with people, when suffering from certain illnesses are discussed.

The range of illnesses is: Flu, chicken pox/measles/mumps, headache, migraine, diarrhoea.
 


UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be registered with the FE/HE Registrar.

3. Any institution wishing to receive skill development grants must be accredited with the relevant ETQA. Such an institution will also be registered with the relevant SETA.

4. Moderation of assessment will be done by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.

    Recommendations and Exemplars for the design of:

    Learning / Curriculum
  • The learner must be familiar with the requirements of the gaming board and all relevant company procedures relating to health, hygiene and dress code.
  • The learner must understand the importance of maintaining good personal hygiene at all times.
  • Special emphasis must be placed on the importance of maintaining a high standard of personal grooming when on duty.
  • The learner must understand the procedure that should be followed when sick including why and to whom illnesses should be reported as well as the location of the first aid box.
  • This unit should form part of the induction programme for the learner.

    Performance systems
  • Ongoing measurement of the learner`s ability to meet this standard is recommended.
  • A new employee should be able to achieve this unit within 1 month of being trained.
