In particular, competence in language and communication at FETC level is essential.

This unit standard does not assume competence in other Environmental Education, Training and Development Practice unit standards; however, it is important to the effective practice of environmental education partitioners in workplace and community settings.

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE
Social protocols are those behavioural norms that are the often-unwritten rules of social interaction in workplace or community settings. They include etiquette relating to rank and position and cultural norms including greetings, dress, and what constitutes polite or impolite behaviour.

Social protocols are neither static nor unchanging, and some may require critical review in terms of issues of gender and racial equality. However, a lack of awareness of or appreciation for social protocols can undermine effective working relationships, as it may be construed as rudeness, disrespect or an intolerance of people of different cultures and persuasions.
