UNIT STANDARD RANGE |
Social protocols are those behavioural norms that are the often-unwritten rules of social interaction in workplace or community settings. They include etiquette relating to rank and position and cultural norms including greetings, dress, and what constitutes polite or impolite behaviour.
Social protocols are neither static nor unchanging, and some may require critical review in terms of issues of gender and racial equality. However, a lack of awareness of or appreciation for social protocols can undermine effective working relationships, as it may be construed as rudeness, disrespect or an intolerance of people of different cultures and persuasions. This unit standard therefore introduces candidates to some basic features of social protocols in the workplace and in community settings, with a view to developing an awareness and appreciation of and respect for the social practices of others. |
