The scope of this Unit Standard covers: The context of this Unit Standard relates to the training of a Learner to an NQF Level 3 competency. The Level assigned to this Unit Standard, i.e. Level 3, is appropriate because it entails the training of a novice in a wood preservation manufacturing environment and is a progression of the skills acquired from Levels 3 to 5. |

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 |
The preparation of equipment and labour for the peeling process is supervised to facilitate that these will be in the prescribed condition for operation as detailed in the work instructions. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 |
Checks are carried out to facilitate that the preparation process is performed at the prescribed work rate while achieving the required standards of preparedness as detailed in the work instructions. |

The peeling process is managed correctly to facilitate that it produces poles with the prescribed dimensions and distribution of sapwood, to enable preservative treatment to be performed to the prescribed standard as detailed in the work instructions. |

The peeling production process is overseen to facilitate that the peeled poles meet the quality standard. |

Checks are in place to facilitate that the process is performed at the prescribed work rate achieving the prescribed standards of operation as detailed in the work instructions. |

UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS |
An individual who wishes to be assessed against this Unit Standard may apply to, or inform, his immediate superior in the relevant workplace, to request management to arrange for his / her assessment by the relevant assessor accredited for this purpose by the ETQA of the FIETA. Accreditation for this Unit Standard shall be from the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurer (FIETA ETQA) through formative and summative assessment by a registered Assessor. Assessment should be contextual and be conducted in the workplace as far as possible.
The relevant NSB and SGB should be notified of any feedback related to this qualification. |
