PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is for people who are, or who wish to be employed in the aspects of the Forwarding and Insurance industries that relate to the insurance of internationally traded goods whilst they are in transit from seller to buyer.

Individuals who are credited with this Unit Standard will have the ability to ensure that the interests of their shipper and receiver clients are protected by appropriate marine insurance measures.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
The specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard are performed in a structured work context with minimal supervision, which allows for learners to operate under self-direction and take full responsibility for all expected outcomes.

Analyse customers` exposure to transit risks in relation to the principles of marine insurance with a view to:
! Communicating to shippers and receivers of cargo their exposure to transit risks in relation to their choice of Institute Cargo Clauses
! Negotiating Facultative Insurance on behalf of shippers and receivers
! Administering an Open Marine Insurance Policy on behalf of the forwarder with particular regard to the submission of declarations, negotiation and payment of premiums, deciding on Conveyance and Location limits, notification of claims, minimising losses, and submission of claims against third parties.
