PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners who are already working or intend to work within a community development environment, who participate in interventions. Learners will have insight into the theoretical frameworks and approaches and apply these for community development interventions.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:
  • Demonstrate critical understanding of the underlying concepts of community development.
  • Examine the different theories underpinning community development.
  • Analyse and apply the different approaches for community development.
  • Integrate theories, approaches and principles to design a community development intervention.

    Relationships between theories and approaches are assessed to inform the design of an integrated community development process.

    Theories and approaches that shape community development interventions are recognised and compared in terms of their strengths and limitations to meet planned community development outcomes.

    A community development process is designed based on community development principles in line with current legislation and regulatory framework. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant HEQC or ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant HEQC or ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant HEQC or ETQA according to the HEQC or ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments at exit points of the qualification, unless HEQC or ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual unit standard as well as the integrated competence described in the qualification.
