    This unit standard is intended for operation managers who need to understand and apply manufacturing principles and methodologies in the manufacturing environment. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment for any individual. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners:

    The scope and context of this unit standard is for mangers who needs to understand and apply manufacturing principles and methodologies in the manufacturing environment during the manufacturing of world class production and manufacturing.

    Five schools of thought are identified and discussed with reference to their impact on modern manufacturing strategy.

    The schools of thought are including but not limited to the following, scientific management, Human Relations, Contingency Theories, Systems thinking, Japanese Management techniques and the quality movement.

    Best Practices include but are not limited to Total Quality Management, Lean Manufacturing, Total preventative maintenance, Continuous Improvement, Process capability and Statistical process Control.

    A production process is improved by the utilization of one or more best practice.

    Process Technology is explained according to academic principles.

    Process technology is explained within a context that includes but is not limited to Material Process technology, Information Process technology and Customer process technology.
