PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for people who wish to participate as judges in a sport of tumbling. This unit standard will provide learners with competencies required to judge Tumbling and/or Trampoline competition(s) in a consistent, fair and impartial manner. Learner will be capable of combining a range of self-discipline and life long observation skills with a working knowledge of the techniques of the sport. And integrate these within the context of competitions.

The learner will be capable in:
  • Demonstrating understanding of and knowledge tumbling.
  • Applying the rules of judging in their specific level of judging.
  • Evaluating the gymnast on the Tumbling floor and/or Trampoline equipment ensure quality in their judging performances. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • Mathematical literacy at NQF Level 2.
  • Communication skills at NQF Level 2. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    This Unit Standard covers all (including but not limited to) aspects of judging on Elementary/Level 1-2 for Tumbling and/or Trampoline Gymnastics namely:
  • Regulations of the Specific Code of Points.
  • Rules and regulations of judging on that level.
  • Competition structure.
  • Elementary/NQF Level 1-2 Tumbling and/or Trampoline Gymnastics routines.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Demonstrate an understanding of and knowledge Tumbling and/or Trampoline Gymnastics. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The structure of Gymnastics is explained with regards of the position of Tumbling and/or Trampoline in the sport of Gymnastics. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Structure includes but is not limited to different disciplines and project management.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The management's structure of Tumbling and/or Trampoline Gymnastics is explained within the South African Gymnast Federation in terms of their responsibilities and duties. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Current Tumbling and/or Trampoline Gymnastics sequences are identified and listed with examples. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Sequences: Elementary and novice.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The minimum equipment requirements are explained for all and/or Trampoline Gymnastics competitions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The minimum requirements of participation, of the different levels of judges, are explained at all compulsory competitions. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Judging levels refer to intermediate, provincial, national and international levels.
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Apply the rules of judging in their specific level of judging in Tumbling and/or Trampoline Gymnastics. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Rules include but are not limited to repetition of elements, interruption of a sequence and termination of a sequence. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The duties of judges at different levels are explained and applied in the context of a competition, inclusive of elementary skill deductions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The Code of Conduct in respect of the different stakeholders of and/or Trampoline Gymnastics is explained in terms of application in a and/or Trampoline Gymnastics sport. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The position of the different stakeholders in Tumbling and/or Trampoline Gymnastics is described with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The protocol of club participation is explained and understood as it is set out in club, provincial and national competitions. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Evaluate the gymnast Tumbling and/or Trampoline Gymnastics performance. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The gymnast's performance on the Tumbling floor and/or Trampoline equipment is evaluated using a simulation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Deviations from the learned skill is identified and described in order to make deductions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Deductions are calculated on judges score sheet in accordance with organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The judges marks of the competitors are noted on the gymnasts score sheets and calculated for reporting purposes. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Own performance is benchmarked against the Head judges score sheet of that competition to ensure reliability. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    A score card is used to communicate marks of the gymnast performance in accordance with organisational requirements.

  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor or moderator with the relevant ETQA and SAGF.
