The nine classes of hazardous substances and dangerous goods are identified in terms of relevant legislation and regulation. |

The groups of hazardous materials are identified in terms of the health risks that they pose. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 |
The potential effects of each of the nine classes are described to ensure that the dangers posed by hazardous/dangerous materials to humans and the environment are fully understood. |

Apply the statutory requirements relevant to the control and management of hazardous material. |

The regulatory framework pertaining to the control and management of dangerous/hazardous materials is explained to ensure that all activities involving hazardous/dangerous materials take place within the framework. |

The regulatory framework includes legislation (Occupational Health and Safety Act, Pollution Control Act and national and international standards. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 |
Safe working practices and procedures in the handling, and storage of dangerous/hazardous materials are explored in terms of statutory requirements and reasons given for the choice of a particular method of handling and storage indicate a clear understanding of the handling procedures. |

Handling and storage would imply the use of the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) during these operations. |
