PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner will be able to compile the Daily Train Service Plan as well as the Next Week's Train Service Plan by using various systems, and will be able to identify deviations from the train plan to compile alternative plans to ensure a predictable train service and contribute to safe movement on rail.

The qualifying learner will be capable of:
  • Capturing train requirement information.
  • Planning a train service.
  • Monitoring the train movement in accordance with the plan.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of procedures to be implemented during degraded mode.

    Information for truck requirements are captured on the information management programmes in accordance organisational standards and procedures.

    Loads are determined in terms of line capacity and load tables.

    The tractive power is determined in relation to the calculated load.

    Train "switch on" is determined in terms of the empty trucks, loaded trucks and related logistic arrangements.

    The train service is planned, taking into consideration any planned interruptions in accordance with organisational standards and procedures.

    The procedure to resolve planned interruptions and unplanned disruptions are described in accordance with organisational standards and procedures.
