This unit standard is for persons in the Engineering, Construction and Energy Sectors.

This unit standard will contribute to the full development of the learner within the engineering, construction and energy environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field of Physical Planning and Construction. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the engineering, construction and energy environment.

    The impact of regional climatic conditions is explained in the context of weather patterns, cooling and heating degree-day data.

    Degree-days are defined in terms of its application in buildings.

    The basis for the energy balance is explained in terms of the "Law of conservation of energy".

    A systems boundary is defined in terms of a building and the energy consumed therein.

    The practical audit methodology is defined in terms of industry accepted audit procedures.

    An audit plan and schedule is developed that is suited to the conditions.

  • Mandate and scope, dates and places, details of the organisation and/or units and contact personnel, high priority elements, time and duration, audit team member identification and the report format, content and deadlines.

    The audit guidelines are developed in terms of required steps in the audit.

    Barriers and practical problems are identified in terms of their causes and possible solutions.

    The energy audit is co-ordinated in terms of the O&M personnel and building occupants' schedules and time frames.
