  • Check the mechanical components and the adjustment, which affect the correct performance of the saw blade in the saw bench.
  • Mount/fit correctly circular saw blade(s) in a saw bench.
  • Monitor the performance of the serviced saw blade in production in the Lumber Mill.

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
A Learner who wishes to enter a learning programme for this Unit Standard must be able to demonstrate:
  • Competence in mathematical and communication skills equivalent to NQF Level 1.
  • An understanding of the detail of Saw Doctoring in the Lumber Mill.
  • Knowledge of workplace procedures, health and safety measures, and environmental management principles equivalent to NQF Level 1.

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE
The scope of this Unit Standard covers:

The Level assigned to this Unit Standard, i.e. NQF Level 3, is appropriate because:
  • For foundational competence the learner has to demonstrate a well developed range of skills and the ability to make comparisons and interpret available information.
  • For practical competence the learner has to show the ability to operate in a number of contexts, some of which may be non-routine, make significant choices from a wide range of procedures and co-ordinate with others.
  • For reflexive competence the learner has to demonstrate the ability to handle significant responsibility for quantity and quality of the learner's own output under general supervision, and possibly that of others.

The nature of the tasks performed, the scope of learning involved and the required responsibility levels, are consistent with those generally defined for NQF Level 3.

  • Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria:
