PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners who are assessed as competent against this unit standard will be able to procure, receive, use and store materials in accordance with site procedures, safety and manufacturer specifications.

These competencies complement the other core supervisory competencies and contribute to the development of a professional community of Civil Engineering Construction Supervisors.

The qualifying learner will be capable of:
  • Requisitioning construction materials.
  • Receiving and verifying quantity and quality of construction materials.
  • Storing construction materials.
  • Issuing and reconciling construction materials.
  • Supervising the use of materials.

    Types of construction materials are described in terms of properties and application. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Materials include, but are not limited to:
  • Naturally occurring materials e.g. sand, ravel; processed natural materials e.g. crushed aggregates, manufactured permanent built-in items; temporary materials and consumables, fuels and lubricants.

    Materials resource schedule is developed according to the works programme. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Lead-in times for all materials are allowed for according to availability and organizational procedures.

    Construction materials are requisitioned in accordance with materials schedule, quality and organizational procedures.

    Storage areas and facilities are prepared in accordance with site procedures, safety and manufacturers specifications.

  • Isolate distribution box, preparing open areas on site, access provision to stores, drainage, safety and security measures.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against the qualification must be registered as an assessor with the relevant Education Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) Body, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this qualification must be accredited as a provider with the relevant Education Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) Body, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant Education Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) Body, or by an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA, according to the ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described in the associated unit standards.
  • Anyone wishing to be assessed against this qualification may apply to be assessed by any assessment agency, assessor or provider institution that is accredited by the relevant ETQA.
