PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to inspect access scaffolding for compliance with the South African National Standards (SANS) 10085. This unit standard will serve, in conjunction with related unit standards, to develop the qualifying learner to function as a scaffold inspector.

The qualifying learner will be capable of:
  • Demonstrating an understanding of different types of access scaffolding, applications and compliance.
  • Explaining the role and responsibilities of the inspector.
  • Reading and interpreting drawings, client requirements and other specifications.
  • Inspecting and handing over access scaffolding.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Details and dimensions of access scaffold design are interpreted in relation to the drawings, specifications and according to client requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Access scaffolding equipment is identified and applied according to drawings, specifications and/or client requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Safe working loads on platforms and total loading on uprights are calculated in relation to the drawings, specifications and/or client requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Inspect and handover access scaffolding. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Access scaffolding works are inspected for compliance with drawings, specifications and/or client requirements and cross-referenced to SANS 10085. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Modified access scaffolding systems are re-inspected in accordance with safety legislation requirements and SANS 10085. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Access Scaffolding Register and Handover Certificate are completed after inspection and re- inspection, issued and signed off in accordance with safety legislation requirements and SANS 10085. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Engineer's Certificates/Reports are obtained when required for special design scaffold in accordance with safety legislation and SANS 10085. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard must be accredited by the relevant ETQA.
  • External Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
  • The accredited Training Provider will oversee internal moderation of assessment.
  • Internal and external moderation should encompass achievement of competence described in the specific outcomes of the unit standard as well as the integrated competence described in the purpose of the unit standard.
