PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner will acquire the requisite knowledge and skills to be able to function effectively in a Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) practice office environment. This unit standard provides an introduction to the historical development of drawing as well as the identification and description of drawing office layouts and equipment. It also provides an understanding of administration procedures in a CAD office.

The qualifying learner will be capable of:
  • Explaining the history and development of drawing.
  • Identifying and describing drawing office layout and equipment.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of drawing office administration procedures.
  • Understanding cost implications for elements of administration.
  • Distributing drawings according to organisational requirements.

    A drawing office layout is described as per lighting, electricity supply, space and drawing methods.

    The process for filing drawings and catalogues is described according to organizational procedures.

    An organogram is compiled and explained in terms of the drawing office structure.

    The use and basic maintenance of draughting machines and equipment is described according to standard drawing office practice.

  • Drawing board, set squares, T-square, compass, scale rules, draughting, pens/pencils, scanner, printer, plotter, computers, photocopier and digitizer.

    The application and characteristics of different types of drawing materials are identified and described in relation to standard drawing office practice.
