PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the neutralising process and its effect of the hair shaft; prepare to perm and complete follow up actions.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the neutralising process.
  • Neutralising a perm.
  • Completing follow up actions.

    Neutraliser is described in terms of its effect on the hair shaft. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Neutraliser is identified in terms of its chemical components. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The neutralising process is identified in terms of common steps and their effect on the hair. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Manufacturer's instructions are followed throughout the neutralising process. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Neutralise a perm.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Hair is neutralised in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and client's requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Nautralizing includes but is not limited to rinsing, blotting, neutralizing and aftercare.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The neutralising process is completed in a time frame compatible with the manufacturer's instructions and hair length.

    Complete follow up procedures.

    The client is prepared for follow-up service in accordance with workplace requirements.

    Tools and equipment are sanitised in accordance with organisational requirements and health and safety regulations.

    Work area is cleaned and tidied according to organisational requirements and time frames. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA in accordance with the current ETQA regulations.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.
  • Other ETQAs who have a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA would be responsible for moderation of achievements of learners who meet the requirements of this qualification.
