PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD

Learners credited with this Unit Standard will be able to conduct themselves according to the rules which govern the parade ring at a race meeting and will be able to enter the parade ring in the correct order and timing. Learners will also be able to communicate with the public, the horse's connections and when conducting a formal post race interview and will be able to follow the procedures in and around the parade ring.

The qualifying learner is capable of:

Explaining the rules of the parade ring.

Explaining the clothing and equipment requirements for the parade ring.

Applying communication processes in the parade ring.

Explaining and applying after race procedures in the parade ring.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in:

Communication at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.

Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

Compulsory personal protective clothing is identified by pointing them out and explaining each ones purpose.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

Compulsory personal protective clothing is correctly fitted in accordance with National Horseracing Authority regulations.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE

Protective equipment includes but is not limited to full cap, boots, goggles, safety vest.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3

Racing colours of owner are correctly fitted in accordance with National Horseracing Authority Regulations.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4

Equipment and clothing required for the race and parade ring is identified and on hand before entering the parade ring.

Equipment and clothing includes but is not limited to whip, racing breeches, racing bib.

Feedback is given to the horses' connections regarding the horse and the race.

The procedure for returning to the parade ring if unplaced is followed according to local operating requirements, within a given case study.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3

How to correctly articulate in a formal post race interview is demonstrated within a given case study.

An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA.

Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.

Moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
