PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard are required by people in the field of building and civil construction. Learners should be able to perform duties in procuring construction work plans.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:
  • Identify given specifications for construction assignments.
  • Determine construction work requirements based on given specifications.
  • Develop work plans that meet statutory requirements.

  • Materials, tools and equipment required for specific assignments include surface preparation tools, equipment and materials and application tools and equipment.
  • Construction materials include coatings such as paint, varnish, stain, etc. and filling materials, stopping materials, sealing materials, etc.
  • Work plan components include scope of work, resources required, start date to earliest finish date, responsibilities, costs and quotations.
  • Costs include materials and labour.
  • Quotations include contingencies and profit.

    OUTCOME RANGE 
  • Given specifications can include any given requirements of relevant persons such as supervisors, customers, contractors, etc. for specific construction assignments, construction work requirements include materials, tools and equipment, including surface preparation tools, equipment and materials and application tools and equipment; Plans, finishing schedule, Bill of Quantities, architect instructions and manufacturers specifications.
  • Quantities required take into account availability, material properties, material manufacturer specifications, surface area and its condition, etc.; calculations include multiplication and division, with numbers of up to three digits, and percentages.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA or by an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA, according to the ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments at exit points of the Qualification, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual Unit Standards as well as the integrated competence described in the Qualification.
  • Anyone wishing to be assessed against this Unit Standard may apply to be assessed by any assessment agency, assessor or provider institution that is accredited by the relevant ETQA.
