PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner achieving this unit standard will be able to instruct a variety of pre-planned and set exercise sessions or classes. They will be able to utilize their knowledge of training methods to instruct the planned exercise session/s. Learners will be able to effectively instruct a range of exercise classes for apparently healthy participants.

Replaces old std: Lead and instruct exercise programmes to individuals or groups.

On achievement of this unit standard the learner will understand and be able to.
  • Plan and prepare for exercise session.
  • Instruct exercise in consideration of safe and effective exercise requirements.
  • Utilize appropriate communication skills required to instruct exercise.
  • Instruct exercise classes in a professional and confident manner.

    The typical scope and context of this unit standard is the administration of policy and procedure related to dismissible and non-dismissible offences, and any grievance, relevant to any South African workplace.

    Learners are required to create mechanisms that ensure that the required Acts that impact on the operative environment e.g. South African Schools' Act etc, policies and procedures are implemented within that environment.

    A class plan for the exercise routine is prepared taking into account specific needs of class members and available space.

    The necessary requirements for an exercise routine are identified and obtained prior to the scheduled start of the session.

    Instruct exercise in consideration of safe and effective exercise requirements.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Exercise routine is instructed in line with safety considerations and scientific principles using the required exercise technique, alignment and posture. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A safe and effective warm up and cool down is identified and utilised. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Intensity levels are monitored and provision is made for safe exercise modifications and effective exercise progressions. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Utilize appropriate communication skills required to instruct exercise.
