PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to prepare the work area for the process of detecting faults and the subsequent repairing of failsafe data transfer systems up to component level by selecting the correct equipment, tools and manufacturers manuals in order to ensure correct testing takes place. Learners will also be able to follow methods and techniques in order to diagnose faults and where necessary, withdraw the faulty failsafe data transfer systems from service. Learners will also be able to repair or replace the faulty failsafe data transfer system components and reassemble and calibrate it ready for service. Learners will also be able to complete all the administrative procedures required to return the failsafe data transfer systems back to operational conditions and then ensure it is certified as operational.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Planning and preparing for fault finding and repairing the failsafe data transfer system.
  • Diagnosing faults on the failsafe data transfer system.
  • Repairing the fault on the failsafe data transfer system.
  • Establishing normal operational conditions for the failsafe data transfer system after completion.
