PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for people who are responsible for identifying food stuffs on display and in storage that are "going off" and that need to be disposed of according to legislation and cannot just be put into a dirt bin.

It is important for these persons to identify, store and dispose of these foods correctly or other foods could become contaminated in the store and customers or people removing items from bins could become seriously ill.

Qualifying learners will be capable of:
  • Identifying perishable foods for disposal.
  • Storing perishable foods for disposal.
  • Disposing of perishable food products.

    The tell-tale signs and characteristics of perishable foods are explained in terms of organisational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Perishable food for disposal is identified and removed from display in a manner which minimizes the chances of shrinkage and cross contamination following organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The recording of perishable food products for disposal is explained as it applies to the organization. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Perishable food products, requiring disposal, are recorded and prepared for storage according to organization policies and procedure.

    The impact of not following correct food disposal procedures is explained in terms of its impact on the public and the organization.

    Perishable foods are disposed of in accordance with legal and organisational requirements. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard and the related Exit Level Outcomes of the Qualification must be accredited by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) body.
  • External Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
  • The accredited Training Provider will oversee internal moderation of assessment.
