PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is aimed at individuals who are required to deal with raw materials in large-scale manufacturing. Individuals credited with this standard will be able to complete all procedures pertinent to the weighing of raw materials. They will also be able to weigh and measure raw materials accurately.

It is assumed that the learner is competent in:

    Orders requesting the weighing of raw material are received, read and checked against a schedule. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Palletised raw materials and labels are obtained and verified to the batch documentation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The equipment appropriate to the weighing of the raw material is identified and ensured to be available. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Equipment includes weighing tools, packaging material, and scale.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Hygiene and safety requirements are identified and adhered to at all times.

    The appropriate personal protective equipment is selected and used at all times.

    Appropriate documents are completed and relevant authorisation to proceed is obtained according to organisational procedures and policy.

    The order in which ingredients are safely weighed is explained, focussing on the problems associated with working out of sequence.

    The pallet label is completed in accordance with batch documentation and correctly attached to pallet.

    Materials are labelled and palleted in accordance with the batch documentation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Appropriate documents are completed and relevant authorisation to proceed is obtained.

    Conclude the weighing process.

    Weighed raw materials are transferred to appropriate transit areas in accordance with the standard operating procedures.

    The weighing area is cleaned in accordance with the standard operating procedures.
