PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this unit standard will be able to better manage their own health and wellness. This unit standard is designed to enable people to take charge of their own healing process and gain insight from their difficult life experiences.

Learners credited with this unit standard will be capable of:
  • Explaining the concept stress.
  • Demonstrating and explaining simple calming, relaxing and energising movements.

    Rationale:

    According to leading experts, many people are affected by high levels of stress or burn-out due to a stressful environment, including natural disasters, accidents, poverty, unemployment, domestic abuse and from secondary trauma of living in a violent world. The context of this unit standard refers to aspects, practices and procedures involving the promotion of living in wellness and is therefore applicable to any person suffering from stress and especially if caught in a situation of continuous stress.

    Stress is described in terms of motivating stress and detrimental stress. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The detrimental impact of stress is explained in terms of the individual's reaction to stressors.

    Includes but not limited to Physical; Emotional; Psychological; Behavioural such as:
  • Communication.
  • Mechanical i.e. noise, vibration.
  • Music.
  • Ill health.

    Demonstrate simple movements which will reduce stress.

    Self practices are described that will assist in stress release.

  • Tapping; finger holds; Pal Dun Gum; head holds.
     

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Breathing and visualisation techniques are explained and demonstrated to dissolve the unconsciously held blockages in one's body (body armour).
