PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners in the field of corporate, private and law enforcement investigations who administer cases. This unit standard is for learners in the field of investigation who receive case files for investigation after the case was registered in the Community Service Centre. The learners will also be able to receive the case files and determine the ways in which the case needs to be investigated, as well as the process to be followed during the investigation to inform the complainants about progress and the updating of information on the case file and or system, (manually or computerized). Learners will take the case file through the judicial processes until such time the case is concluded in line with the judicial processes.

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    A case file does not refer to files used for pure administrative purposes within businesses. It refers to but is not limited to files used within the judicial, law enforcement, forensic, corporate and private investigative sectors.

    A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:

    Communication is established and maintained with the complainant/victim regarding the investigative process. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Communication includes to but is not limited to the providing of the investigators details to the complainant/victim and the provision of regular feedback to the complainant/victim.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The complainant/victim is interviewed to determine whether any additional information is available. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The first statement obtained is assessed to establish whether it contained insufficient information to inform whether further statements are necessary.

    The manner in which the complainant is handled is determined by the organizational structures and procedures.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Any individual who wishes to be assessed against this unit standard (including assessment of RPL) may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA. Assessors must be competent in the outcome of the Unit Standard.
