PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to understand transport related legislations and contractual conditions of the transport carrier. They will also have the ability to distinguish between the various transport services available in South Africa and to make a choice of transport mode based on this knowledge.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Explaining transport legislation in international trade.
  • Explaining standard trading conditions of transport and support service providers.
  • Distinguishing between the different transport services available for South African importers and exporters.

    The relationship between the standard trading conditions of transport operators and freight forwarders is explained in order to show their interdependence.

    The transport limitations of liability are identified for different international transport modes. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Transport limitations of liability may include but are not limited to the Warsaw Convention, Hague Rules, Hague Visby Rules and Hamburg Rules.
