After completion of this Unit Standard learners will have a working understanding of the legal framework within which national key points are being secured. They will be able to make a distinction between general security and the securing of national key points.
  • Explain the functions of the minister and the owner of the national key point (NKP).
  • Explain the recruitment and selection requirements of NKP security officers as stipulated by legislation.
  • Explain how to apply the powers of security officers on a NKP.
  • Identify the acts and deeds that are prohibited on a NKP.

    The regulated training requirements that an NKP security officer must comply with is explained in training outcomes.

    The application of provisions regarding the presence of unidentified persons on an NKP is explained in terms of the legislation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The procedure to examine articles not under the direct control of any person and render it harmless is explained in terms of legislation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The procedure to search persons and articles under the direct control of such person and seize such articles is explained in terms of the provisions of legislation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The procedure to arrest a suspect on an NKP is explained in terms of legislation. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Procedure includes but are not limited to the use of reasonable, justifiable and proportional force in affecting such an arrest.

    The limitations on the powers of an NKP security officer is explained in terms of the legal application.
