PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners who demonstrate competence as described in the outcomes of this unit standard will be able to explain a range of liquid-liquid and liquid-vapour separation processes.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of distillation applications.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of evaporation applications.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of condensation applications.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of absorption applications.

    This will ensure that the concepts behind liquid-liquid and liquid-vapour separation process are sufficiently established that when these processes are encountered in practice, learners will be able to grasp their operational principles. This competence will enhance the learner's employability and career options in all occupations where knowledge of liquid-liquid and liquid-vapour separation processes are needed.
