PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This unit standard requires that learners are able to prepare, position and monitor camera supports under instruction/supervision. Credited learners are able to select camera support equipment, and lay complex track for camera mounting to achieve the operational and technical requirements of shots.
Credited learners take into consideration the dimensions and weights of cameras and any additional camera accessories. They can assess the suitability of surface on which tracks are used, and the types of track relative to the sizes and weights of the equipment carried. Learners can maintain any required power supplies, and understand and show an active response to, the hazards accompanying the handling, moving and fixing of heavy equipment. Improved competence to lay camera support equipment improves safety during film and television productions, as well as the quality of film and television productions by achieving the requirements of shots. By attaining the required competencies, learner employability is improved by ensuring that they are able to contribute to film and television productions. UNIT STANDARD RANGE |
Competence is required under instruction of key grips, and for any dolly mount or less without direct supervision. Operation of support equipment is limited to any rig that does not require expert safety considerations, for example, in terms of weight and balances. Therefore, support equipment that will carry people is not included, and situations where equipment damage can occur as a result of operation should be avoided. Other range statements are provided with the specific outcomes and assessment criteria where applicable. |
