PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for individuals who work for a Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) merchandising company and are responsible for ensuring stock availability at the wholesaler/retailer on behalf of the manufacturer/supplier.

Persons credited with this unit standard will be able to recommend orders where stocks are low and will follow the policies and procedures of the three parties involved in the process to the satisfaction of all concerned.

Where the FMCG merchandiser is able to take orders these orders will be executed according to the requirements of all parties involved.

    Explain the FMCG merchandiser's role in maintaining stock levels. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The role of the FMCG merchandiser in maintaining stock levels is explained as it applies to the organisations involved. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The policies in respect of the collecting of orders on their behalf are explained as they apply to the various manufacturers/suppliers involved. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The policies in respect of the placing of orders with FMCG merchandisers are explained as they apply to the various wholesalers/retailers involved. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    In instances where the FMCG merchandiser is not permitted to place orders, alternative methods for ensuring stock continuity is suggested as they apply to the affected organisations.

    Calculate required orders.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The effect of overstocks and sold outs on all stakeholders is explained in terms of general service delivery and the financial impact. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The impact of incorrect stock counts is explained as they impact on the accuracy of orders. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Stock counts are completed accurately and timely where stock shortages are identified. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Expected sales and an order are calculated with a focus on avoiding both an over and under stocking situation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The potential impact of pressurising a client into ordering stock not actually required is explained in terms of the effect on the long term relationship.

    Communicate the need for an order.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The policies and procedures for reporting the need for an order are explained as applicable to the merchandising organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The retailer is advised of the need for an order and where an order is given the applicable documentation is correctly completed. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The merchandising organisation's documentation in respect of the recording of the need for an order is maintained according to the policies of the organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The need for the order is communicated to the relevant role players as applicable to the merchandising organisation and manufacturer/supplier. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or an ETQA, which has a MOU with the relevant ETQA. Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA, according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
