PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this unit standard are able to: access international, national, and local sources of information relevant to promoting recreation at community level; identify and link with information networks to facilitate recreation programs; and establish and maintain recreation information for professional use.

The learner will be able to understand and explain the concept of values and ethics and integrate these models into effective and efficient leadership approach.

On completion of this unit standard the qualifying learner will be able to:
  • Access local, national, and international sources of information relevant to recreation programming.
  • Identify and link with information networks to facilitate recreation programming at community level.
  • Maintain and distribute relevant information for professional use in recreation programming.

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in numeracy and literacy at NQF Level 3 or equivalent. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    In the context of this unit standard, recreation information includes: venues, media, publicity, equipment, resources, personnel - instructors, specialist trainers and teachers, research, management, activities, policies, and plans, philosophies, legislation, training, and funding.

    Access local, national, and international sources of information relevant to recreation programming.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Appropriate primary and secondary sources of information locally, nationally and internationally are identified and accessed. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Internet recreation websites, research institutes, recreation organisations and associations; government departments, tertiary institutions.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Methods to access primary and secondary information locally, nationally, and internationally are described and put into practice. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Using a personal computer, internet café, library, reference book stores, journals and magazines, membership to professional associations.
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Identify and link with information networks to facilitate recreation programmes at community level.

    Recreation agencies are identified to establish a network to promote recreation programmes.

    Non-government organizations, community-based structures, media, training bodies, international organisations and institutions.

    A system to maintain contact for a mutual benefit must be established.

    Regular correspondence - email, letters, newsletters, magazines, journals, attendance at conferences, meetings, workshops.
