PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for people employed in the public sector at the practitioner level. Persons credited with this Unit Standard are able to take responsibility for organising their own work in the work roles for which they are directly accountable.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Developing work plans approved by supervisor.
  • Monitoring own work performance under guidance of supervisor.
  • Demonstrating initiative, flexibility and accountability within allocated responsibilities. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Persons attempting this Unit standard should be competent in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 2.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 2.

    Develop work plans approved by supervisor. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The learner's own goals and objectives and the necessary links with the learner's work team and corporate goals and objectives are identified to ensure understanding of their relationship with those of the team and the organisation/department. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The learner's duties and responsibilities as part of a team/section are described so as to ensure that there is effective team work and that tasks are carried out on time. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A personal time management plan that meets organisation requirements is drawn up and implemented to support personal effectiveness in work roles. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    The plan includes, but is not limited to, tasks for which directly accountable with designated timelines, accountabilities associated with each task, daily, weekly and monthly work plans, relevant resources, their location, availability and method of use; and policies and procedures that must be applied to achieve outcomes.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Work plans are drawn up, implemented and revised to improve effectiveness.

    Monitor own work performance under guidance of supervisor. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The standard of performance for assigned tasks is agreed to, formalised in writing and signed off by supervisor. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Tasks for which the learner is directly accountable are executed for a two-week period bearing the performance standard in mind. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Self review of work done is carried out by the learner using the agreed to performance standards and a report is written for discussion with supervisor. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The ability to ask for assistance in ensuring understanding of requirements and completing tasks to requirement is demonstrated. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Demonstrate initiative, flexibility and accountability within allocated responsibilities.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Actions required to secure required or additional resources are undertaken in time to pre-empt breakdowns in work flow. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A choice is made as to the correct action to follow when options emerge that could improve or hinder performance. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Work priorities are changed to accommodate new developments. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    New tasks that fall outside the learner's initial scope of work are undertaken to assist the team/section to achieve its objectives. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Supervisor's formal endorsement of additional tasks undertaken outside of initial allocated responsibilities is secured to facilitate teamwork.

    Demonstrate an understanding of key processes necessary to manage own work performance.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Accreditation for this Unit Standard shall be obtained from the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance Body, through summative and formative assessment by a registered assessor.
  • Assessors must be registered as an Assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderators must be registered as assessors with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Agreement with the relevant ETQA.
  • Training providers must be accredited by the relevant ETQA.

    Moderation should include both internal and external moderation where applicable.
