The person credited with this unit standard will be able describe the functions and roles of the cargo processes within the environment. They are also able to describe the unlawful interference of cargo and describe the security functions related to the security and movement of cargo.

The qualifying learner will be capable of:
  • Describe security functions pertaining to cargo process within the transport environment.
  • Preventing unlawful interference of cargo within the transport environment.
  • Explaining the security functions related to the movement of cargo.

    Current legislation and legal prescripts regarding security of cargo are described in terms of their effect on the security environment.

    Current legislation could include but is not limited to: Civil Aviation Regulation Standards (CARS 1997 part 108, (SA-CATS-ACS)), International Aviation Transport Authority (IATA), International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

    The functions and processes of cargo operations are explained with examples.

    Prevent unlawful interference of cargo within the transport environment.

    Types of cargo could include but are not limited to: Consignments, parcels, packaging, boxes, containers, consolidations, couriers, mail, live animals, high value items, perishables.

    Consignments are secured in accordance with procedures in order to protect against unlawful acts. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Security procedures are described for consignment types with examples of how the consignment is protected. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Irregularities are identified in order to establish whether organisational procedures were followed in a given situation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Consequences of not preventing unlawful interference against cargo operations are described with examples.
