PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learner who are assessed as competent against this unit standard will be able to handle, transport and store aluminium products safely therefore contributing towards the overall safety of the organisation and that of the country. This competence will enable the learner to handle aluminium materials in accordance with company requirements, to transport and store completed aluminium systems safely and to perform Quality Assurance checks on raw materials and finished products. This will ensure that breakages and stoppages are kept to a minimum and equipment is used in accordance with safe work practices. This competence will advance the learner's own expertise and employability in both the construction sector and other related jobs.

    Raw materials are handled without damage to the material.

    Materials are lifted in accordance with company specifications.

    The range includes complete frames and long lengths of raw material.

    Transport completed aluminium systems with due regard to safety.

    Bylaws regarding road transportation are complied with. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A vehicle with the correct load carrying capacity is selected for transportation.

    The correct transportation racks are selected for use. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The correct loading and off-loading methods are demonstrated to prevent injury to personnel and to prevent damage to aluminium systems.

    Aluminium systems are correctly stacked to adequately protect the systems.

    Aluminium systems are tied down safely with the correct tie down materials.

    Raw materials are inspected for scratches, dents and flaws.

    Completed products are inspected for scratches, dents and flaws.

    Completed products are inspected for accurate manufacturing according to job card. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Completed products are inspected for proper fitting of hardware.

    Completed products are inspected for proper protective packaging.

  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA), or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.

  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments at exit points of the Unit Standard, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual Unit Standards as well as the integrated competence described in the Unit Standard.
