PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard forms part of the qualification - National Certificate in Real Estate, registered at Level 5 on the National Qualifications Framework. Learners working towards this standard will be learning towards the full qualification, or will be working within a Property Environment, specialising in Estate Agency Sales or Rental, where the acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to the understanding of the sector and functioning in the workplace. This standard will also add value to learners who are starting or working in their own Property and/or Real Estate business.

The purpose of this standard is for learners to develop a practical understanding of the context and strategies relevant to the management of marketing, sales and leasing, particularly as these pertain to residential property.

The qualifying learner is capable of :
  • Analysing products in order to ensure competitive mandates from buyers, sellers, lessors and lessees.
  • Developing marketing, sales and leasing plans for residential property
  • Implementing plans to ensure sales and marketing activities take place.
  • Managing plans to ensure sales and marketing activities are. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in the standards of the National Certificate in Property Practice at NQF Level 4 or equivalent, in particular, they must have achieved the outcomes of the level 4 standard `Market, sell and lease residential properties`. In addition, they must also be able to communicate in English and apply financial and accounting practices to the equivalent of NQF Level 5.

  • Legislation including Alienation of Land Act, Matrimonial Property Act, Sectional Title Act, Share Block Act, Estate Agents Act, Rent Control Act, Share Blocks Control Act, Upgrading of Land Tenure Rights Act, Housing Development Schemes for Retired Persons Act.
  • Statutory requirements including Estate Agents Affairs Board and the South African Council for Valuers.
  • Voluntary associations will include South African Property Owners Association, Institute of Property Practitioners of SA, Institute of Estate Agents of SA, Time Share Institute of SA and the SA Council of Auctioneers.
