PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for managers of organisations and learners who manage asset risk in insurance, and other organisations.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Analysing the computer risk in a specific organisation.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the management of computer hardware in an organisation.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the management of computer software in an organisation.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the management of computer data in an organisation.

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    There is open access to this Unit Standard. Learners should be competent in Communication and Mathematical and Financial Literacy at NQF Level 3. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The typical scope of this Unit Standard is
  • Hardware risk includes but is not limited to fire, theft, flood, electrical, ventilation, power surge, lighting, mechanical failure, users incompetence.
  • Software risk includes but is not limited to piracy, viruses, backups, systems failure, user incompetence, firewalls and hacking.
  • Data risk includes but is not limited to theft, choice of software, loss of productivity, loss of use, intellectual capital and fraud.

    Analyse the computer risk in a specific organisation.

    1. The risks associated with computers are known and explained with examples.

    2. The exposure level within an organisation is classified and qualified in terms of hardware, software and data and presented in a matrix.

    3. Financial resources in an organisation are analysed for availability and sufficiency to compensate for damage or loss of hardware or software in the entity.

    Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the management of computer hardware in an organisation.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Accreditation for this Unit Standard shall be obtained from the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance Body, through summative and formative assessment by a registered assessor.
  • Assessors must be registered as an Assessor with the INSQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the INSQA
  • Moderators must be registered as assessors with INSQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Agreement with INSQA.
  • Training providers must be accredited by the relevant ETQA.

    Moderation should include both internal and external moderation where applicable.
