PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person assessed as competent against this Unit Standard will be able to recognise that development projects and communities could impact on each other in both positive and negative ways. The qualifying learner will understand the dynamics involved in development projects and will be able to recognise that negotiation and trade-offs need to be made.

Competency in this Unit Standard will equip the qualifying learner with the skills required to undertake an important role in community development and will enhance the employability of the qualifying learner in both community development-related initiatives. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners are assumed to be competent in Communication at NQF Level 2. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
This Unit Standard only relates to development projects with a skills development-training component and thus excludes pure infra-structural projects with no training component.

Apply an understanding of the dynamics and structures prevalent in communities.

1. Community structures, role players and stakeholders at a local level are identified and their roles explained with examples.

2. Protocols such as the role of Amakhosi, municipality, local government, civic structures and informal social structures are researched and explained with examples.

Advise communities of the effect that development projects have on communities in a local context.

2. The advantages of each type of agreement are identified with practical examples related to a specific community.

3. The disadvantages of each type of agreement are identified with practical examples related to a specific community. 


UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
Accreditation for this Unit Standard shall be obtained from the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance Body, through summative and formative assessment by a registered assessor.
  • Assessors must be registered as an Assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderators must be registered as assessors with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Agreement with the relevant ETQA.
  • Training providers must be accredited by the relevant ETQA.

    Moderation should include both internal and external moderation where applicable.
