PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard provides a broad introduction to the business sector. It is the starting point for a learner moving into a business environment. The focus is knowledge, skills, values and attitudes in relation to the learner`s own context and experience of the world of work.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Understanding the basic concept of core business and support functions in an organisation
  • Explaining the role of a section or department in the organisation
  • Identifying different work roles and the contribution of each to the department or section 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

  • Be competent in communication and mathematical literacy at NQF level 1. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Core business activities include those areas that represent the functions that are core to the area of business, eg the manufacturing department in a manufacturing organisation.
  • Support functions may include Human Resources, Training and development, Salaries, IT, Forensic Auditing, Adjusting/Assessing, Legal, Accounting/credit control, Investments, communications and PRO, Maintenance, security, administration, corporate governance.

    3. The most senior person in the department is identified with, where applicable, the title of his/her position.

    4. The line is identified from the senior person in the department or section to the Board of Directors.

    5. The effect on the organisation if the department or section did not function effectively is described with examples.

    3. The importance of each category of work is discussed with reference to the efficiency of the department.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Accreditation and Moderation:
  • Accreditation for this Unit Standard shall be from the Services Seta Education and Training Quality Assurer (SSETQA) through assessment by a registered Assessor. Assessment should be contextual and be conducted in the workplace as far as possible.
  • Assessors must be registered as an Assessor and Moderators must be registered as moderators with SSETQA.
  • SSETQA will co-ordinate all moderation activities in accordance with their policies and procedures.

    Learners can manage themselves and their activities responsibly and effectively while collecting and preparing information, in order to explain the structure of an organisation as a workplace. 

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO COMMUNICATING 
    Learners are able to communicate effectively and responsibly when explaining the role of a selected department in an organisation and the different types of work carried out in that department. 

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO DEMONSTRATING 
    Learners are able to demonstrate an understanding of the world as a set of related systems by identifying the work performed in a selected department of an organisation in relation to the work of the rest of the organisation. 

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO CONTRIBUTING 
    Learners begin to explore education and career opportunities through investigating different roles and functions in a department of an organisation.
