The learner will be able to analyze and harvest grapes of different ripeness for different purposes such as grapes for wine-, table and raisins.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of factors influencing grape ripeness.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of grapes analysis to determine optimum ripeness.
  • Harvest grapes according to standard procedures.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Demonstrate an understanding of factors influencing grape ripeness.

    1. The ripeness of a grape for a specific purpose is determined according to criteria. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Specific purpose may refer to wine, table or raison grape.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The stages of optimum ripeness of a grape are explained according to criteria. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The growth and development of a grape berry is explained in relation to ripeness. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Growth and development may refer to berry enlargement, sugar, acid, flavour and colour developments.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. The influence of the climate during harvesting is explained in relation to grape ripeness. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    5. Methods of grape harvesting are explained according to industry requirements.

    Harvest grapes according to standard procedures.

    1. Personal preparation is done according to workplace procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Material for harvesting is prepared according to workplace procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The pH of grapes is determined according to procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. Grapes are harvested manually according to workplace procedures.

  • An assessor, accredited by the relevant ETQA, will assess the learner`s competency.
  • Assessment procedures will be supplied by the ETQA in alignment with NSB requirements.

  • Assessment and moderation procedures, activities and tools must be transparent, affordable and support development within the field, sub-field and NQF.

  • Reporting skills are demonstrated by effective communication, using verbal (language) and/or writing skills.
