PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners working towards this standard will be learning towards the full qualification, or will be involved in or working within a cleaning services environment. The learner will be able to clean and maintain toilets and urinals. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
The learner has the speaking and listening ability equal to an ABET Level 1 Com 101 standard and/or any other communication skill that will enable him/her to confirm the knowledge and skills required by this unit standard. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
1. The scope of this unit standard is for any person who needs to clean a toilet and urinal in any environment.
2. In the context of this unit standard a toilet and urinal include all kinds of western toilets, urinals and eastern toilets.
3. The level assigned to this unit standard is appropriate because the process is limited in range, very repetitive and familiar, no generation of new ideas are needed and the person has no responsibility for the learning of others.

RANGE STATEMENTS THAT REFER TO ASSESSMENT CRITERIA IN THIS UNIT STANDARD:

1. Areas on a toilet for cleaning can include, but are not limited to the seat, the lid, lid and ring joints, feet under the ring, area under the flush rim, area between the rim and water level and the area below the water level. Areas on a urinal for cleaning include, but are not limited to the trough of the urinal and the dip/lip of the urinal drainage hole.
2. Correct chemicals refer to chemicals used to remove lime scale and/or any material, carried by water from a hard surface. These include acidic chemicals.
3. Dedicated toilet cleaning equipment refers to clearly identifiable sponges, brushes or cloths with an abrasive surface suitable for the type of hard surface and used exclusively in toilets and urinals
4. Broken toilets and urinals refer to toilets and urinals that are not flushing, or that are dripping, have a constant water inflow or broken seat rings and lids.
5. Pre-treating of a toilet or urinal surface must include sufficient contact time of diluted chemical concentrate to the surface.

    DEFINITION OF TERMS WITHIN THIS UNIT STANDARD:

    1. Toilet: Refers to a unit, made from stainless steel or vitreous china, with a bowl, visible plumbing and cistern with flush handle. Also called WC on building plans.
    2. Toilet cleaning equipment: Refers to dedicate, identifiable sponges or cloths with abrasive surface suitable for the type of hard surface.
    3. Urinal: Refers to a unit with a trough, lip/dip and a drainage hole, all made of stainless steel.
