This unit standard is for people who control forestry work team activities. People credited with this unit are able to:
  • Monitor activities through the use of control documentation.
  • Control quality, costs, environment, safety and personnel issues.
  • Control production.
  • Control the logistics of vehicles, stores and equipment.
  • Control the maintenance and cleaning of vehicles and equipment.
  • Report productivity and progress daily, weekly and monthly.

    Communication and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3 and basic safety in forestry operations.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The purpose of the time book and the type of entries in the daily time book are explained. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Work attendance, absentees, leave, sick leave, overtime - normal, Saturday, Sunday.

    Daily time books are completed according to company requirements.

    The type of field control documents used by the organization are described and their purpose is explained.

    Operational activities are controlled in terms of the organisation's personnel code of practice related to the relevant field operations.

    Absenteeism, leave, sick leave, disciplinary procedure, incentives, remuneration, overtime, perks.

    Explanations of procedures for handling problems are consistent with company requirements.

    Production norms are explained for the relevant field activities related to slope, terrain conditions, vegetation conditions, tree sizes, wet/dry conditions and other relevant factors.

    Work and time studies, historical production, budget norms, work orders or requisitions.

    Production measurements are of the appropriate type for the relevant field activities and are related to production targets.

    Norms are controlled through appropriate and correct use of the logbook.

    Stores and equipment for the relevant field activities are controlled according to company procedures.
