This unit standard is for people who prune trees for access in commercial forestry.

    Prepare for pruning. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Purpose of pruning is explained in terms of the effect pruning has on crop growth, access and the final product. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Access, safety and forest fires, straight stem, minimum forks and promote main leader growth.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Hazards and their influences are explained and their effect minimised. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Terrain, falling branches, saw dust, weather conditions and safe working distance.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Personal protective equipment is used according to company policy and/or legal requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Equipment selected is appropriate for the task at hand. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Equipment is inspected for serviceability and corrective action taken in line with company specific procedures.
