PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard requires of learners to demonstrate the ability to monitor, report and advise on compliance with legislation regarding lifting equipment. Learners credited with this unit standard are capable of:
  • Reporting and advising on the maintenance and safe handling of lifting equipment in a work place in accordance with specified requirements.
  • Describing the specified requirements pertaining to the construction, safe working loads and application of lifting equipment in a work place.
  • Demonstrating knowledge pertaining to the examination and records of lifting equipment in a work place.

    Demonstrate understanding pertaining to the limitations and specified requirements as regard to the safe work loads of lifting equipment.

    Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to the different types of lifting equipment in the work place.

    Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to the hazards that are associated with the construction and operation of lifting equipment in the work place.

    Demonstrate an understanding pertaining to the consequences of non-compliance to specified requirements as regard to lifting equipment in the work place.

    Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to the examination and records of lifting equipment in a work place.

    The explanation confirms basic understanding of the different methods of examination and testing in terms of specified requirements with regard to lifting equipment. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The explanation confirms understanding of the basic requirements and control of records as regard to lifting equipment in the work place. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or another ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines and the agreed ETQA procedures.
