This Unit Standard requires learners to be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basic toxicological principles. Learners credited with this Unit Standard are capable of:
  • Demonstrating basic knowledge pertaining to toxicology contained in specified requirements.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the routes of entry of toxic substances into the human body and their absorption.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the metabolism of toxic substances.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the influences of various toxic substances on the human body.

    The effect of toxic substances on the human body, according to chemical classification, is explained in accordance with specified requirements.

    The dose-response curve is explained in accordance with specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The comparison of the toxicity of different substances is applied using a standardised rating and is according to specified requirements. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited, as a provider, through the relevant ETQA by SAQA. Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
