PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The purpose of the learning is to enable the first responder in the workplace to prevent and respond to health emergencies at an advanced level.

NQF Level 2 or equivalent will facilitate better understanding and proficiency in obtaining this Unit Standard.
In order for the learner to achieve this unit standard the learner must already be competent in: Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) This unit standard can be achieved in part, through recognition of prior learning. Evidence can be presented in a variety of forms, including previous current (within 2 year period) international or local primary emergency care/first aid qualifications, reports, testimonials, mentoring, functions performed, portfolios, work records and performance records. As such, evidence should be judged according to the general principles of assessment described in the notes to assessors below. Learners who have met the requirements of this Unit Standard may apply for recognition of prior learning to the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) body. The applicant must be assessed against the specific outcomes and with the assessment criteria of this Unit Standard. |
UNIT STANDARD RANGE |
This unit standard addresses the prevention, recognition and management of a range of occupational risks/emergencies for persons according to current and internationally accepted emergency care protocols. This unit standard builds upon the unit standard at level 2, "Provide risk based primary emergency care in the workplace", and learners should only be assessed on this level 3 unit standard if they have already achieved the level 2 unit standard. |
