PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner credited with this unit standard will be able to:

    Overhead droppers on OHTE correctly and safely thus contributing to the safe running of electric trains as well as ensuring the continuity of power supply in the Rail Sector.

    It is assumed that learners are competent in the following:

    This unit standard includes the installation of a dropper section insulator on OHTE under isolated and earthed or live (3-kV DC) conditions.

    Quality checks are performed safely and correctly on droppers as per company-specific instructions and manufacturer's specifications.

    Worksite is cleared according to company-specific instructions.

    Protection is removed correctly in accordance with TWR.

    Work permit is cancelled correctly and timeously according to work-permit procedures when permit was issued. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing or moderating a learner against this unit standard must be trained, qualified, certified and re-certified as an assessor/moderator in the OHTE/Substation division in accordance with the specific validation regulations relevant to the specific unit standard and registered with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this Qualification must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or has a Memorandum of Understanding with a relevant ETQA.
  • The relevant ETQA body will oversee assessment and moderation of assessment or by an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA, according to the ETQA policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessment at exit points of the Qualification, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual Unit Standards as well as the integrated competence described in the Qualification.
