PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners working towards this standard will be working within a golf club environment, specialising in golf retailing, added services to golf clubs, golf coaching, sports science and golf event management, where the acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to one's job. This standard will also add value to individuals who are seeking to develop a career pathway towards an accomplished sports management and sports administration specialist.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Listing and describing the factors relevant to injury prevention in golf coaching.
  • Identifying and dealing with injuries, fatigue, illness and accidents for future prevention or minimisation.
  • Developing and utilising systems for recording and reporting injuries.
  • Implementing risk management procedures and tools for the proactive management of injuries.

    Describe the factors relevant to injury prevention in golf coaching. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The facilities and equipment used in golfing and golf teaching are listed and described with regard to safety. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Participants are prepared with regard to safe participation in golfing activities. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The content, structure and organisation of the golf lesson is planned to ensure the safety of the instructor and the participant. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The correct development of technique is considered in relation to injury prevention. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The fitness level of the participant is considered in regard to injury prevention. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Screening and monitoring of participants are considered for injury prevention. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Identify and deal with injuries, fatigue, illness and accidents for future prevention or minimisation.

    Injuries are recognised and classified into degree of severity.

    Injuries are treated immediately where appropriate.

    The different techniques for building fitness levels after injury are identified and remedial action provided for the different types of injuries.

    Typical golf injuries relative to professionals and amateurs, male and female are identified together with their causes.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Effective systems for recording and reporting injuries are identified and evaluated in terms of their effectiveness in preventing re-occurrence.

    Accidents and injuries are recorded with a view to future prevention or minimisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    System is evaluated on an ongoing basis and quality improvements recommended to ensure that it is kept current and in line with relevant injury recording policies and procedures.

    Implement risk management procedures and tools for the proactive management of injuries.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Emergency first aid procedures are described and applied to the different types of injuries. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Emergency procedures include the application of CPR and first aid practices.

    A first aid kit is fully equipped and restocked on an ongoing basis. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Appropriate medical practitioners are sourced and their details listed in case of emergency.

    Comprehensive insurance cover is negotiated and all details on hand in case of any claims.
