This unit standard is for persons in the Energy Sector.

A person credited with this unit standard will be capable of:
  • Installing under-surface wireways
  • Drawing in of conductors into wireways

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of the learner within the energy sector by providing recognition, further mobility and portability of knowledge within the energy sector. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the energy sector environment.

    Job instructions are interpreted to determine a sequence of operation according to standard procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Task procedures and requirements are planned for the job including type and quantity of tools and materials lists according to job instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Appropriate tools, equipment and materials are selected, checked and organised to meet the requirements of the activity.

    Basic wireways layout is determined in accordance with job requirements.

    Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is selected in accordance with the statutory requirements.

    Install under-surface wireways.

    Wireways route are marked off according to given instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Correct personal protective equipment is selected and used according to statutory requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Correct tools are selected, inspected and used for cutting and chasing. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Codes of practice with respect to cutting and chasing depths are applied according to conduit and box specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Walls and floors are cut and chased according to marked layout. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Safety regulations and procedures relevant to cutting and chasing are applied at all times. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 
    Wireways are installed and supported into the cut out slot.

    Tools are cleaned and stored on completion of the task according to worksite procedure. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Worksite is rehabilitated to acceptable condition.

    Excess and unused material is cleaned and stored and debris is dispose of according to worksite procedure and environmental requirements.

    Draw in conductors in wireways.

    Different types and sizes of conductors are identified as per labels on wire packaging.

    Safety regulations and procedures relevant to installing conductors are applied at all times.

    Correct drawing in methods for conductors are used according to instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Colour coding for installing conductors is applied as per job instruction.

    The relevant tools and equipment used for installing conductors are used correctly.

    Housekeeping practices are applied on completion of task.
