PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is a core standard and forms part of the qualification, FETC in New Venture Creation and is registered at level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). Learners working towards this standard will be working within a SMME (Small, Medium, Micro Enterprise) environment, specialising in New Venture Ownership and Management, where the acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to one's job. This standard will also add value to entrepreneurs who are seeking to develop their entrepreneurial skills so that they can become more marketable for bigger contracts, including commercial and public sector contracts, for example the Department of Public Works programmes.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Identifying the human resources needs of a new venture
  • Implementing the human resources needs of a new venture
  • Identifying and compiling basic employment policies and procedures
  • Complying with relevant human resources legislation

    A basic skills survey is undertaken to determine the skills requirements of a new venture.

    The human resources capacity requirements in new venture are determined.

    The cost implications for employing staff are determined.

    A decision is taken regarding employment possibilities and a basic profile of each person to be employed is drawn up for interviewing purposes.

    Selection and recruitment of new staff is undertaken where relevant according to a basic recruitment and selection plan.

    Job descriptions are compiled and new recruits/employees informed of their duties.
