PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD

The person credited with this unit standard is able to demonstrate an understanding of the operations of a venue and basic equipment involved. This will enable the learner to produce floor plans. The learner's understanding of a function schedule and the knowledge of the physical attributes of the buildings will contribute to meeting clients' needs. This will benefit the company and the exhibition industry, as well as enhancing the learner's abilities.

The qualifying learner is capable of:

Explaining different venue layouts and plans

Interpreting and applying fire department regulations

Determining physical attributes of the buildings at an exhibition site

Identifying auxiliary services and data points at an exhibition venue

Identifying elements on an exhibition floor plan

Producing scale drawings of floor plans

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Competence in Computer Literacy, Mathematical Literacy and Communication at NQF level 2 or equivalent.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE

Basic equipment includes but is not limited to: staging, audio-visual equipment, tables, chairs, podiums, fire equipment, draping, tier seating

Building operating systems include but are not limited to: electrical points and wiring systems, water pipes, lights, plumbing systems

Auxiliary service points include water, electricity, telephone points

Data points refer to Internet connection points

Facilities include but are not limited to: restaurants, organiser's office, first aid stations, toilets, parking, taxi stands, public telephones

UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS

An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.

Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.

Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.

Moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA according to the policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation of that ETQA, at its discretion, in terms of agreements reached about assessment and moderation between various ETQAs (including professional bodies).
