Qualifying Learners credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate and discuss hair design/styling services on Ladies Caucasian type hair.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
The typical scope of this unit standard is the hairdressing salon/working environment within the scope of Ladies Hairdressing - Caucasian type hair. 

Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
Design a whole head of finger waves on short and medium length wet hair, using the fingers 
OUTCOME NOTES 
Determine after consultation, the most aesthetically suitable hairstyle for the client and design a whole head of finger waves on short and medium length wet hair, using the fingers and cutting comb only. Finger waving must be demonstrated with and without a parting using vertical, horizontal and diagonal finger waves.

The scope of this unit standard covers synthetic and human hair extensions of different hair lengths namely long, medium and short and of different hair textures namely wavy, curly and straight.

    In order to select the most suitable service and advise suitable home care products, the learner must be able to communicate effectively using visual and language skills in the modes of oral persuasion. Written skills are necessary to record information on a client card.

  • Testing of water temperature to ensure client comfort;
  • Control of water pressure;
  • Protection of client's head against banging or scratching;
  • Using clean towels, tools and gloves;
  • Identification of skin allergies;
  • Temperature of electrical appliances used on hair are tested;
  • Electrical appliances are disconnected after use;
