PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard has as its core purpose qualifying learners who will represent South Africa abroad as Foreign Economic Representatives with in depth knowledge of the international trade environment in which international trade takes place. Qualifying learners will be able to:
  • Analyse how international trade contributes to the creation of wealth in countries and enterprises
  • Differentiate between local and international trade, and between trade in different product groups
  • Differentiate between risk areas applicable to international trade as a whole and to trade with particular regions
  • Demonstrate an understanding of tariffs and non tariff barriers that are used to inhibit trade
  • Analyse how international trade organisations facilitate trade
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the steps taken by the South African government and private sector to improve the country's international trade performance
